Recently, Northern Illinois volleyball's Kristin Hoffman
went on a community service tour with Students Today Leaders Forever
(STLF). During her week-long trip, the junior took NIUHuskies.com's
Flip Cam with her to give Huskie fans a glimpse of her trek and the
people she reached out to.
Most students like to get away and go wild on spring break. But not
Hoffman, who has been one of NIU's most community service-dedicated
student-athletes. For her spring break, Hoffman wanted to be involved
with STLF because the organization's mission reflects her own personal
values. Founded in 2003, STLF's mission is to reveal leadership through
service, relationships, and action. Whether the setter is on or off
the court, Hoffman displays those characterstics in community service
trips, leading the NIU volleyball Relay For Life team and on the court
as the captain of the offense. The video below shows Hoffman in action,
displaying such wonderful characteristics.

The Fiesta Bowl is under scrutiny by the Bowl Championship Series amid the firing of John Junker, the president and CEO of the Arizona bowl game.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Fiesta Bowl will be asked to justify its
inclusion in the BCS after organizers for the Arizona game fired
president and CEO John Junker for "an apparent scheme" to reimburse
employees for political contributions and "an apparent conspiracy" to
cover it up.
The Fiesta Bowl released a scathing internal report Tuesday.
reimbursements, listed as at least $46,539, are an apparent violation
of state campaign finance laws and the charter that allows the Fiesta
Bowl its nonprofit status. The Arizona attorney general's office is
conducting a probe of the matter.
The BCS reacted swiftly, saying
it would undertake an investigation of its own to "consider whether the
Fiesta Bowl should remain a BCS bowl game or other appropriate

On December, 1, 2010, Francis Stroup passed away at the age of 101. A former member of the Northern Illinois University faculty, Stroup is the man who wrote the lyrics to the Huskie fight song in 1961. Stroup and his late wife, Marjorie, arrived at NIU in 1959 as he was hired as a physical education professor. The following year, he took over the head coaching position of the new men's swimming team. He then retired from the university in 1974. Tonight at the NIU-UIC basketball game, Stroup will be honored prior to tip-off with a moment of silence. The famous lyrics that were once voted as one of the top-25 college fight songs by an ESPN national poll in 2000:
Huskies, come on you Huskies
and make a score or two
Huskies, you're Northern Huskies
the team to pull us through
Forward, together forward
there's victory in view
Come on you Huskies, Fight on you
Huskies and win for N.I.U.
