Former Northern Illinois safety Tracy Wilson will soon be activated on the New York Jets 53-man roster, according to Head Coach Rex Ryan in the team's weekly press conference on Monday on NewYorkJets.com. Wilson will be activated from the practice squad and replace safety Emmanuel Cook on the roster.

Ryan said about Wilson "He's been doing a great job. [Wilson is] one of the hardest working guys we've got on this team, if not the hardest. So I think that young man's earned it."

WILSON BACK WITH JETS

Congratulations go out to former Northern Illinois University safety Tracy Wilson, who was signed to the Jets practice squad. He originally signed with the Jets Aug 24 as an undrafted free agent. Wilson appeared in the final two preseason games for New York. Wilson played three years at NIU, tallying 171 tackles in 32 games played.

WILSON'S A JET

Former Northern Illinois safety Tracy Wilson was signed to a free agent contract by the New York Jets Wednesday, the team announced.  Wilson, who graduated from NIU in December and elected to skip his senior season at NIU, had entered his name in the supplemental draft but was not selected.  Shortly after that, Wilson was signed by the Jets.

Wilson played in just eight games for Northern Illinois last year and made 35 tackles with two fumble recoveries, an interception and half a tackle for loss.  He was injured early in the year versus Illinois and despite returning to action later in the year, did not play at 100 percent.

Wilson was the fourth free agent signing off the 2010 Huskie team.  Tailback Chad Spann remains on the Indianapolis Colts' preseason roster while cornerback Chris Smith and wide receiver Landon Cox were released by the Rams and Bengals, respectively.
