Members of both the Northern Illinois men's and women's golf teams will play a role in the 39th Ryder Cup Matches this weekend at Medinah Country Club. Griffin Bauman, Bryce Emory, Kurtis Luedtke, Paul Hammerschmidt and Greg Pohlmann of the men's team, along with Allie Parthie from the women's team, will work inside the ropes at one of golf's grandest events. The six Huskies will be walking scorers throughout the matches.

The matches begin on Friday morning.



NIU men's golfer Griffin Bauman carded a three-under 69 today at the 63rd Annual Illinois Open Championship at The Glen Club in Glenview, Ill. Bauman is three-under for the tournament after 36 holes and is currently in a tie for seventh-place overall. Bauman finished his second round with a pair of birdies and will look to continue to climb the leaderboard on Wednesday in the final round of the 54-hole event. 

Northern Illinois golfer Bryce Emory was in third place (211, -1) among 138 players after three rounds at the 81st Illinois State Amateur Championship, held at Glen Oak Country Club in Glen Ellyn, Ill.  The junior carded a first-round 71 and then posted consecutive 70s to wrap up the second and third rounds at the par-71, 6,741-yard course.  Emory is currently playing the fourth and final round, looking to secure a top-5 finish or better.  To follow along, click here.

Huggins Takes 35th at Rolex Tournament of Champions

Incoming men's golf freshman Nick Huggins placed 35th at the Rolex Tournament of Champions, which was held from June 27-July 1 at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore.  Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), the event is one of the most prestigious amateur tournaments associated with the AJGA.  The field featured 66 of the top amateur competitors from 31 different states, and Huggins held his own with rounds of 71, 79, 76 and 76 for a total of 302 (+14).

Golfer Nick Huggins is Enjoying a Successful Summer

Incoming men's golf freshmen Nick Huggins has kept himself busy this summer. He tied for 52nd place in the 94th Western Junior Championship held at Beverley Country Club located in Chicago. The tournament attracts some of the best junior golfers in the nation. Past winners include current professional golfer Rickie Fowler, who won it in 2005.

Currently, Nick is playing in the AJGA Rolex Tournament of Champions. It is regarded as the "Masters" of junior golf events where only an elite field is invited to compete. Nick shot a 71 and is tied for third after day one.
