With just four days until the Huskies host Aurora University in an exhibition contest, Ross Jacobson of the Daily Chronicle writes about the increased comfort level for Mark Montgomery and the Huskies heading into the season. As Jacobson notes, expect the Huskies to play with a higher tempo and more pressure defense in year two.
The past two Monday nights, NIU men's basketball head coach Mark Montgomery has spent time visiting the fraternities and sororities at NIU. Last Monday night, Montgomery stopped by the fraternities on campus, bringing Taco Bell to each of the houses. Last night, Montgomery made the rounds to the sororities at NIU, handing out boxes of chocolate in a Pre-Valentine's Day gesture from the Huskies.
"Everyone at the fraternities and sororities was very friendly and it was a good chance to meet and interact with members of the student body," Montgomery said. "We had a great response from the fraternities last week and saw a number of those guys come out and support our team last Wednesday, hopefully we see them come back this week and we see them joined by the sororities we visited last night."

As of today, Sept. 15, NCAA rules allow college basketball teams to begin full team workouts for up to two hours per week. NIU head coach Mark Montgomery wasted little time in getting the Huskies on the floor, putting his squad through a workout at 6:15 a.m. this morning. The first official day of practice might be 29 days away, and the regular season opener at Purdue 57 days away, but the Huskies are already hard at work preparing for the season.
The size of the crowd at football practice today increased as a number of students, and their families, participating in move-in day at NIU stopped by to get a glimpse of the 2011 Huskie football team. The Huskies also had another visitor whose face is more familiar around the NIU Convocation Center than on the turf at Huskie Stadium as men's basketball head coach Mark Montgomery stopped by. Montgomery and NIU football coach Dave Doeren chatted for a few minutes during practice, no doubt comparing notes about their transitions as first-year head coaches at NIU.

the demeanor of a coach on the floor, as Montgomery's high school coach Ernie
Price told the News Herald.

makeover going on with the NIU men's basketball program as chronicled by Steve
Megargee of Rivals.com. It hasn't been unusual to see new head coach Mark

ESPN Chicago's Scott Powers. Powers talked about the skill set that Henley will
