NIU BASEBALL ALUM LANDS COACHING JOB AT ALMA MATER

Former Northern Illinois baseball player Andy Deain (2006-09) recently made headlines in the Northwest Herald this week as he was named the pitching coach at Prairie Ridge High School, his alma mater. Deain was one of Prairie Ridge's top pitchers in his two varsity seasons before missing his senior season, finishing 22-1 his sophomore and junior seasons. With the Huskies, Deain had an outstanding pitching career (mostly in relief) finishing with a 14-3 record, 11 saves and 122 strikeouts.

FORMER HUSKIE SOCCER PLAYER NAMED TO ALL-STAR TEAM

Drew Jeskey, a member of the NIU men's soccer team from 2005-08, was named to the 2011 Brisbane Select Team while playing professionally in Australia. Jeskey is one of four players from the Wolves FC club to be named to the 11-player Select Team, which is the equivalent to an All-Star team in American sports. Wolves FC will play Rochedale Rovers in the Brisbane Premier League Grand Final on Thursday, Sept. 29.

BASEBALL ALUMS WIN FRONTIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

A pair of Northern Illinois baseball alum, Chuck Lukanen '10 and Brian Smith '10, won the Frontier League Championship Series Sept. 18 with the Joliet Slammers by defeating the River City Rascals, 6-5. The Slammers took the five-game series 3-1. Congratulations to Chuck and Brian on their accomplishment.
