The second leading scorer in the country, Silas is averaging 24.2 points a game and has led the Huskies in scoring in 18 of the Huskies' 21 games this season. As Jay Taft of the Rockford Register Star reports, Silas is getting plenty of attention from NBA scouts.


Xavier Silas led NIU to a 71-69 victory last night at Eastern Michigan with 31 points, including 6-of-6 from beyond the three-point line. For his efforts, Silas was named's Mid-Major Stud of the Night. Silas and the Huskies return home to the NIU Convocation Center on Saturday when they host Toledo at 3:30 p.m., the game is part of a doubleheader with the NIU women who play Western Michigan at 1 p.m.

Silas was also featured recently on the Mid-American Conference Fast Break video series.


Matt Levins of the Hawk Eye caught up with redshirt freshman Matt Mougin last week to profile one of Northern Illinois' up and coming wrestlers. Mougin, a native of Columbus Junction, Iowa has worked hard over the offseason to start in 2010-11.

Fans can get a chance to see Mougin and the rest of the 2010-11 Huskies Dec. 3, when the Huskies host Michigan State at the Convocation Center for their annual Showcase Meet.


The Mid-American Conference released its preseason poll and preseason All-MAC team yesterday and Fred Mitchell of the Chicago Tribune wrote this preview story on the upcoming 2010-11 season in today's paper.

His team was under .500 last season and is decidely below the radar for the upcoming season, but Northern Illinois coach Ricardo Patton is as optimistic as most coaches this time of year.

"I think we have just as good a chance as anyone at this point," Patton said Thursday.

Chief among the reasons for Patton's positive outlook is 6-foot-5 senior guard Xavier Silas, who returns after averaging 19.7 points and 5.3 rebounds last season.

Silas was selected as a member of the preseason All-Mid-American Conference team.
