Happy Birthday - June 19

On June 19 we wish a happy birthday to baseball pitcher Jacob Westphal



A native of Sioux City, Iowa, Westphal recently completed his freshman season on Rocky Top. He appeared in 12 games over the course of the season, posting a record 1-1 with a 3.79 ERA and 13 strikeouts over 19.0 innings of work. His first win of the season came against ETSU when he threw 3.2 innings, allowing three runs and striking out four. 

Westphal is 19 years old today.

Happy Birthday - June 16

On June 16 we're wishing a very happy birthday to Vol basketball great Wayne Chism



A Tennessee native, Chism averaged 11.3 points per game over his four year career on Rocky Top. Chism was the focal point of the Volunteer offense during his senior season, averaging 12.6 points per game to go along with 7.2 boards per contest -- both team highs. He earned first team All-SEC honors that season and led Tennessee to its first-ever Elite Eight appearance. 

Since completing his career at UT, Chism has had success playing professionally overseas. He is currently playing in the Philippines.

Wayne Chism is 28 years old today.


Happy Birthday - June 12

On June 12 we're wishing a happy birthday to former Vols quarterback Erik Ainge



A native of Hillsboro, Oregon, Ainge played quarterback for Tennessee from 2004-07 and amassed 8,700 passing yards and 72 touchdowns. One of his most memorable performances came during his senior season when he threw for 397 yards and seven touchdowns in a 52-50 triple overtime victory over Kentucky. Following his time with the Vols, Ainge was drafted in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. He remained with the franchise until the summer of 2011.

Happy Birthday - June 10

On June 10 we're wishing a happy birthday to former Lady Vol basketball point guard Ariel Massengale



Before becoming the 29th pick of the 2015 WNBA Draft to the Atlanta Dream, Massengale wrapped up a highly successful career with Lady Vol basketball. A four-year starter, Massengale posted an 11.5 points per game scoring average during her senior season and led the team with an .860 free throw percentage. She was the 41st Lady Vol to amass 1,000 career points and currently ranks fourth on the all-time assist list with 518 for her career. 

Born this day in 1993, today is Massengale's 22nd birthday.

Happy Birthday - June 9

On June 9, we're celebrating the birthdays of baseball's Zach Warren, women's swimmer Madison Hahn, and football VFL Craig Colquitt!



Warren, a left-handed pitcher, recently completed his freshman season on Rocky Top. The Vineland, New Jersey, native went 2-0 in his first season, appearing in eight games and getting five starts along the way. He finished the year with 16 strikeouts and a 5.09 ERA in 23 innings pitched. Born this day in 1996, Warren is 19 years old.



A rising senior out of Norfolk, Virginia, Hahn made a pair of individual finals at the SEC Championships in the spring, finishing in a tie for 13th in the 100 backstroke (53.69) and 21st in the 200 backstroke (1:57.17). She picked up a win in the 100 backstroke earlier in the season, swimming 53.58 to take gold at the Nike Cup. A three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Hahn is 21 years old today.



June 9 is also the birthday of Knoxville native and two-time Super Bowl champion Craig Colquitt. Father of current NFL punters and former Vols Dustin and Britton Colquitt, craig played for the Vols from 1975-77 before being drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the NFL Draft. He would go on to win a pair of Super Bowls with the franchise and was inducted into the Greater Knoxville Hall of Fame in 2009.

Happy Birthday - June 7

On June 7 we're wishing a happy birthday to multi-event athlete Brielyn Rogers of Tennessee track and field!



Rogers is a rising junior out of Upper Malboro, Maryland, who competes in the sprints, jumps and throws for Tennessee. She made her collegiate debut in the women's hepthathlon in 2015 at the Tennessee Relays, becoming the first UT athlete to compete in the event since 2010. Later in the season, she set a new PR in the triple jump at the SEC Championships, recording an effort of 40 feet, 10.5 inches -- the fifth-best mark in program history.

Rogers is 20 years old today.

Happy Birthday - June 6

On June 6 we're wishing a happy birthday to football VFL Bill Bates



A native of Farragut, Tennessee, Bates went on to play 15 years in the NFL following a four-year career at the University of Tennessee. Bates was a four-year starter for the Vols, starting at both free safety and strong safety during his time on Rocky Top. After a strong playing career that featured freshman All-America honors, Bates signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 1983 as an undrafted free agent. He remained with the franchise until 1997, winning three Super Bowls and picking up one All-Pro selection. Bill Bates is the father of current Tennessee linebacker Dillon Bates.

Happy Birthday - June 5

On June 5 we're wishing a happy birthday to Luis Valero of men's tennis!



Luis recently concluded his freshman year with Tennessee men's tennis, notching a singles record of 18-14 and a doubles mark of 15-11 over the 2014-15 season. His 18 singles wins are the second-most on the team and the biggest of which likely came in the SEC Tournament when he rallied from a break down to win his match and clinch the Vols' 4-3 victory over Alabama. The Cali, Colombia, native has been ranked as high as No. 71 in the world junior rankings. Born this day in 1996, Valero is 19 years old today.

Happy Birthday - June 3

On June 3 we're wishing a happy birthday to former softball standout Melissa Davin!



Davin played for the Lady Vols from 2011-14, playing in 210 games over her career. A utility player who saw time in both the infield and the outfield, Davin finished her time on Rocky Top with a career batting average of .306 with 30 home runs and 111 RBIs. She put together her best season during her senior campaign, posting a career-best .331 batting average to go along with 14 homers and 41 RBIs. In light of those achievements, Davin was named first team All-SEC and second team NFCA All-Southeast Region. She was also a member of the 2014 SEC Community Service Team.

Happy Birthday - June 1

It's the first day of June and we're wishing a happy birthday to swimming's Peter John Stevens!



Stevens recently concluded a strong freshman year on Rocky Top as he closed out his rookie stint with All-America and first team All-SEC honors. The Kranj, Slovenia, native was part of the winning 200 medley relay team at the SEC Championships, giving him his first gold medal at UT. The 200 MR team finished in 1:24.09 with Stevens providing a breaststroke split of 22.72 -- believed to be the fastest ever. In the 100 breaststroke, his time of 51.88 recorded during the preliminary rounds at SECs is already the second-fastest time ever recorded at Tennessee.

Brown this day in 1996, Stevens is 19 years old today.

Happy Birthday - May 22

On May 22 we're wishing a happy birthday to baseball's Bret Marks



Marks recently completed his senior season with the Vols and went 4-5 on the hill with a 2.92 ERA. He logged 89 strikeouts through 77.0 innings of work during the 2015 season and will finish his career on Rocky Top with a career ERA of 3.46 to go along with 99 strikeouts over his two seasons in the orange and white. A transfer from Wallace State Community College, Marks prepped at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Roswell, Georgia, and is 23 years old today.

Happy Birthday - May 17

On May 17th we're celebrating two Big Orange birthdays on Rocky Top as men's diver Mauricio Robles and women's basketball's Jannah Tucker are blowing out the candles today!



A rising senior from Monterrey, Mexico, Robles just completed a strong junior season in which he earned All-America and All-SEC honors. After competing at the NCAA Championships, Robles was named an All-American on all three boards after he finished eighth on the 3-meter (422.45), 10th on the 1-meter (397.75) and 15th on the platform (362.25). He won SEC gold in the 1-meter springboard at the conference meet with a school record score of 421.15 and was named SEC Diver of the Meet. Robles turns 22 years old today.



After redshirting her true freshman year in 2013-14, Tucker made her Lady Vol debut last season when she checked in late against No. 7 Stanford. She recorded her first career rebound in that contest. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Tucker arrived at UT in 2013 as the No. 8 ranked player in the ESPNw Hoop Gurlz Top 100. She was also a member of the gold medal-winning USA U18 team that placed first at the FIBA Americas Championship in August of 2012. Tucker is 20 years old today.

Happy Birthday - May 14

On May 14 we're wishing a happy birthday to Cherelle Thompson of Tennessee swimming and diving!



A native of Princes Town in Trinidad & Tobago, Thompson just completed her senior season on Rocky Top. A strong season saw Thompson record a career-best time of 22.43 in the preliminary round of the 50-meter freestyle at the SEC Championships before finishing eighth in the consolation final. During those same Championships, Thompson picked up the second SEC medal of her career when she placed third in the 200 free relay with teammates Faith Johnson, Amy Lubawy, and Harper Bruens.

Thompson went on to be a named a 2015 honorable mention All-American and a member of the 2015 SEC Community Service Team. 

Born this day in 1992, Thompson is 23 years old today.

Happy Birthday - May 12

On this 12th day of May we wish a happy birthday to one of Tennessee swimming's most accomplished alumnae: Kelsey Floyd!



A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Floyd competed for Tennessee as a member of the women's swimming squad from 2009-13.She was a three-time NCAA champion, claiming all of her titles during her senior season in a trio of relays. She won national championships in the 200 freestyle relay, the 200 medley relay, and the 400 medley relay. She earned 24 All-America certificates during her time on Rocky Top -- the most in Lady Vol history -- and grabbed 16 SEC medals, including six gold. 

Born this day in 1991, Floyd is 24 years old.

Happy Birthday - May 8

On May 8 we're wishing a happy birthday to one of the greats: legendary defensive end Doug Atkins!



Before making his mark in the NFL, Atkins attended the University of Tennessee and played football under coach General Robert R. Neyland. He was a member of UT's 1951 national championship team and earned All-America status in 1952. He is considered by many to be the greatest defensive end in program history. Following his collegiate career, Atkins was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 1953 NFL Draft. He helped the Browns to a division title in 1953 and the NFL Championship the following year. From there, he transitioned to the Chicago Bears, with whom he would spend the next 12 seasons and write his name in the history books. He won another NFL Championship with the Bears in 1963 and was a three-time All-Pro selection. He concluded his NFL career playing three years with the expansion New Orleans Saints.

In all, Atkins was an eight-time Pro Bowler, a 10-time All-Pro pick. He is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall  of Fame and was inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame. His collegiate #91 was retired by Tennessee in 2005.

Happy Birthday - May 3

It's the third day of May and we're wishing a very happy birthday to Logan Haddock of women's swimming and diving!

Logan  Haddock

A true freshman out of Chantilly, Virginia, competed primarily in the 100 and 200 backstroke during her first season on Rocky Top. She made her collegiate debut on October 9, swimming a 2:09.39 in the 200 backstroke at Queens University. She followed that performance with a 1:00.60 in the 100 backstroke the next day at North Carolina. During the spring portion of the season, Haddock recorded three new career bests at the Last Chance Meet on March 1 in Athens, Georgia. That day she turned in a 53.22 in the 100 freestyle, a 56.09 in the 100 backstroke, and a 2:01.92 in the 200 backstroke.

Born this day in 1996, Haddock is 19 years old today.

Happy Birthday - May 1

On May 1 we're wishing a very happy birthday to football's Gavin Bryant



A redshirt freshman from Jackson, Alabama, Bryant sat out the 2014 season with Tennessee after joining Team 118 as a four-star inside linebacker. During his final prep season, he was a Class 5A All-State pick and recorded 60 tackles and nine sacks for Jackson High School. Bryant turns 20 years old today.

Happy Birthday - April 28

It's April 28 and we're wishing a happy Big Orange birthday to track and field's Kyle Quinn!



A junior from Somerset, Massachusetts, Quinn is in the midst of his third season throwing the javelin for the Volunteers. He is currently ranked 11th in the East Region and is in qualifying position for the NCAA East Regional Championships in May gollowing his season-best throw of 229 feet, three inches (69.89m) to open the year at the Alabama Relays. Last season, Quinn threw the top distance in the nation when he recorded a career-best throw of 256 feet, 10 inches (78.28). Born this day in 1993, Quinn is 22 years old today.

Happy Birthday - April 24

On April 24 we're sending happy birthday wishes to Tennessee basketball legend, Ernie Grunfeld



Now the president of the Washington Wizards in the NBA, Grunfeld scored 2,249 points for the Volunteers between 1973-77. That figure ranks second all-time at UT, as does his 22.3 points per game career scoring average. A two-time All-American, Grunfeld had his No. 22 jersey officially retired by UT on March 2, 2008. Following his playing career, Grunfeld played in the NBA for nine seasons before becoming the general manager of the New York Knicks and eventually the Milwaukee Bucks.
