On Wednesday, 247Sports announced its preseason College Football Top247 list -- a rankings compilation that catalogs the top 247 players in college football. Five Volunteers made the cut.

Sophomore Derek Barnett headlines the list for Tennessee, coming in at No. 19 overall. He was the second-ranked defensive end, finishing only behind Ohio State's Joey Bosa (who also happened to be ranked No. 1 overall). Junior cornerback Cameron Sutton is the second Vol to appear on the list, ranking 46th.

Curt Maggitt comes next, giving UT three defensive players within the top 70. The senior is listed at No. 65.

The Vols also had two offensive playmakers make the list in sophomore running back Jalen Hurd (205) and junior quarterback Joshua Dobbs (223).

Freshman defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie and sophomore running back Alvin Kamara were placed on the watch list as neither have appeared in a game to this point for Tennessee.

The player rankings were devised by 247Sports analysts and writers along with several 247Sports team site publishers and reporters weighing in. In some instances, players' coaches were contacted.

According to 247Sports, the following qualifications were used to create the list:
1. The best player
2. Production matters, but production is secondary to ...
3. Ability
4. Importance of position

The list is set to be updated with new rankings at the midseason point of the 2015 college football season and again in the postseason.
