Feature Story on Williams Tennis Tradition

The Daily Beacon ran a feature story today on senior Caitlyn Williams and her family tennis-playing tradition.

Williams is the third person in her family to play tennis at Tennessee. Her older brother, Rhyne, was an All-American for the Vols in 2010 and 2011 and currently plays on the professional tennis circuit. Her mother, Michelle, was also a Tennessee All-American, and her father, Bob, played at Duke. Her grandfather, Mike DePalmer Sr., was the Tennessee men's head coach from 1981-1994.

Lady Vols Furman Fall Classic Tennis Update (9/22)

Day two of doubles competition has wrapped up at the Furman Fall Classic.

In the flight one championship match, Caitlyn Williams and Joanna Henderson fell to their counterparts from North Carolina, 8-4. The duo finished second in their first competition together in 2012, and in just their seventh match together as a partnership.

Brynn Boren and Kata Szekely took home fifth place in flight one after defeating Jaklin Alawi and Dominika Kanakova from South Carolina 8-5 in their final doubles match of the tournament.

The freshman duo of Tiffany Tavares and Mimi Fotopoulos earned their first doubles victory of the season in the flight two seventh place match with a 8-6 win over the host team's duo of Michele Stanford and Amanda Murray.

Lady Vols Furman Fall Classic Tennis Update (9/21)

The doubles competition is over on day one of the Furman Fall Classic.

The duo of Joanna Henderson and Caitlyn Williams find themselves in the flight one doubles finals after defeating both of their opponents from South Carolina and Alabama in rounds one and two of the doubles tournament Friday morning.

The No. 34 ranked doubles pair of Brynn Boren and Kata Szekely fell in the first round of doubles play to their opponents from UNC but rebounded with a round two victory to move on to the fifth place game on Saturday morning.

The freshman duo of Tiffany Tavares and Mimi Fotopolous fell twice on day one and will play in the flight two 7th place game Saturday morning.

Williams Takes Southern Adult Claycourt Title

The one seed of the Southern Adult Claycourt Championship, Tennessee sophomore women's tennis player Caitlyn Williams outlasted her teammate and second seeded Jesse Grace to earn the title.

Williams defeated Grace 6-1 in the first set but had to battle to a 7-5 victory in the second set to earn the win.

Grace, Williams To Face Off In Claycourt Open

University of Tennessee sophomores Jesse Grace and Caitlyn Williams will face off Sunday in the finals of the Southern Adult Claycourt Open at the Knoxville Racquet Club.

Williams, a native of Knoxville, and the No. 1 seed in the tournament will take on her teammate and Germiston, South Africa native Grace, the No. 2 seed.

Williams has not dropped a game during the tournament defeating Erin Allen in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals followed by another 6-0. 6-0 victory over Kathryn Evans in the semifinals yesterday.

Grace took down Emily Holloway 6-0, 6-1 in the quarters and defeated Tennessee teammate Kayla McMurry 6-1, 6-0 in the semis. (McMurry advanced to the semis after a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Rachel Hinkle).

Also of note, Grace and McMurry took home the doubles championship with an easy 6-2, 6-1 victory over Megan Conley and Holloway.
