VFL Devrin Young Signs With CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders

VFL running back Devrin Young signed with the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders.  Young (5'8 - 173) signed with the Green and White after spending four seasons at Tennessee. In 33 career collegiate games, Young totaled 67 kickoff returns for 1,543 yards and 32 punt returns for 312 yards. He also added 50 carries for 204 rushing yards, and 18 receptions for 144 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Riggs Jr. Scores TD In CFL Preseason Opener


VFL Gerald Riggs Jr. opened the touchdown scoring for the all of the CFL Preseason last night with a 20-yard touchdown run in the second quarter as his Toronto Argonauts beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 24-6

Crompton Signs With CFL's Edmonton Eskimos


Former Vols quarterback Jonathan Crompton signed with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. Crompton finished his senior season at Tennessee completing 58.3 percent of his passes for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns. He finished his collegiate career as the seventh all-time passer, going 348-of-629 with 4,187 yards and 36 touchdowns. He was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft and also spent time with New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Redskins.

Former Vol Hefney Named CFL Defensive Player Of Week

Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive back and former Tennessee Vol (2004-07) Jonathan Hefney has been named the CFL defensive player of the week.

Hefney registered nine tackles and a 20-yard kickoff return in the Bombers' 25-20 win over the B.C. Lions at Canad Inns Stadium on July 28.

The award marks the sixth time this season that a member of the Bombers has been named player of the week.

So far this year, Hefney's third season with the Bombers, he has registered 30 tackles, one sack and one interception.

Updating Former Vols In The CFL

Here's a look at some former Tennessee football players who are seeing action in the CFL:

• 11-year CFL veteran Jeremaine Copeland is in his second season with the Toronto Argonauts. The slotback has eight catches for 151 years early on. Copeland has posted some impressive career numbers, playing for Montreal, Calgary and now Toronto. He is closing in on 10,000 career receiving yards, standing with 9,532 on 587 catches and 75 touchdowns. Copeland would become the 14th player in CFL history to gain more than 10,000 career yards. 

• Defensive back Demetrice Morley is in his first season with the Calgary Stampeders and has three tackles in three games. Running back LaMarcus Coker is on the practice squad and has not played in any games in 2011.

• With the Edmonton Eskimos, linebacker Rico McCoy is on the practice squad after being signed on July 14. 

Jonathan Hefney is in his third year with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and leads the team with 19 tackles through three games and a 2-1 start.
