Vols up to No. 8 in ITA Team Rankings

Thanks to a difficult road schedule to start the season, the Vols debuted at No. 8 in the first ITA computerized national team rankings of the college tennis season on Tuesday.

The Vols (12-3) already have wins over No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 17 Illinois (twice) and No. 22 Wake Forest. Tennessee opens SEC play Friday against rival No. 9 Georgia on the road in a match normally reserved for the season finale. 

New individual rankings were released. Sophomore Mikelis Libietis, who has a team-leading 24 wins this season, leads the way at No. 13, followed by No. 33 Hunter Reese and No. 76 Brandon Fickey. The ranking for Fickey is a career best.

In doubles, two of the Vols' three doubles teams are now in the national rankings. Libietis and Jarryd Chaplin slipped to No. 40, while Edward Jones and John Collins debuted at No. 34.

Reese Wins Mixed Doubles at TVOC

Rising sophomore Hunter Reese teamed up with North Carolina's Caroline Price to win the mixed doubles title Sunday at the Tennessee Valley Open Championships in Chattanooga.

Reese and Price, the tournament's top seeds, beat third seeded Sydney Campbell and Casey Kay 6-1, 6-2 in the title match.

Reese missed out on nabbing a pair of titles at the annual tournament. He and sophomore Brandon Fickey lost in the final round of doubles for the second year in a row, falling to Georgia's Kay and Eric Diaz 5-7, 6-4, [10-8].

Three Vols Reach Doubles Semifinals at TVOC

Hunter Reese, Brandon Fickey and Taylor Patrick reached Saturday's semifinals of the Tennessee Valley Open Championships, the annual USTA tennis tournament in Chattanooga.

Reese and Fickey, finalists at the TVOC last year, progressed to the semifinals via a walkover and a 6-4, 6-2 win against Gabriel Townes and Erik Graves. 

Patrick and younger brother Steven dropped just six games in two matches Friday. They play the third-seeded Georgia Bulldog pair of Casey Kay and Eric Diaz.

Reese is also in the semifinals of the mixed doubles, also as the top seed. He and Caroline Price will play Diaz and Emily Zabor.
