Vols In NFL Update (10/10)

Checking in on Vols in the NFL from Sunday's action:

In an emotional game, Oakland beat Houston, 25-20. With the Raiders, Denarius Moore didn't have a catch, but returned four punts for 34 yards. John Henderson had four tackles and a pass defended. With Houston, Arian Foster rushed for 68 yards on 22 carries and had five catches for 116 yards. On defense, Jason Allen made eight tackles, had an interception and two passes defended. New Orleans edged Carolina, 30-27 as many former Vols made key plays. With the Saints, Robert Meachem had four catches for 38 yards. On defense, Aubrayo Franklin made five tackles had a sack and forced a fumble Watch Franklin's sack/forced fumble; Jabari Greer had three tackles. With Carolina, Omar Gaither had two tackles and a pass defended. 


Pittsburgh handled Tennessee, 38-17 has Ramon Foster started at right guard for the Steelers. Chris Scott was waived during last week by Pittsburgh.

The Chiefs rallied to beat Indianapolis, 28-24 as Dustin Colquitt punted six times for a 44.8 average and two punts inside the 20. 

Seattle beat the Giants, 36-25 as Deon Grant started at safety and had five tackles, a sack and two passes defended. Watch the sack highlight.

Minnesota romped over Arizona, 34-10 as Anthony Herrera started at right guard for the Vikings. With the Cardinals, Dan Williams started at nose tackle and had three tackles. 

The Bengals beat the Jaguars, 30-20 as Gibril Wilson had a tackle and forced fumble for Cincinnati.

San Francisco rolled over Tampa Bay. 48-3. Parys Haralson had four tackles as he started at OLB for the Niners. Luke Stocker was not active for the Bucs. 

New England beat the Jets, 30-21 as Shaun Ellis had three tackles for the Pats against his former team. Albert Haynesworth had a QB hurry. Jerod Mayo sat out the game with a knee injury. 

The Chargers topped the Broncos, 29-24 as two former Vols saw action with Denver. Robert Ayers started at left defensive end and had five tackles, forced a fumble and had a tackle for loss. Britton Colquitt punted six times for 53.7 average with a long of 60.

In the Sunday night game, Green Bay moved past Atlanta, 25-14 as regular starters Chad Clifton (left tackle) and Scott Wells (center) aided the Packers' 426 yards of total offense. 

The Monday night game pits Chicago vs. 4-0 Detroit, which features lineman Jacques McClendon.

The Ravens, Browns, Cowboys, Dolphins, Rams and Redskins have bye weeks.

Vols In The NFL Update (8/28)

Here's a look at former Vols in NFL preseason action from Saturday. Notably, Arian Foster tweaked a hamstring with the Texans. We have all your updates here. 

- In the battle of Florida teams, Tampa Bay beat Miami, 17-13. With the Dolphins, LB Kevin Burnett led the team with six tackles along with a pass defended and QB hurry. Tony McDaniel had a TFL and pass defended while Marvin Mitchell had a stop. With the Bucs, Luke Stocker made his preseason debut and had a catch for eight yards. Also, Nick Reveiz played but Jonathan Crompton did not.

- The Cowboys topped the Vikings, 23-17. With Dallas, TE Jason Witten has four short receptions for 17 yards. Anthony Herrera started at RG for Minnesota returning from knee surgery. Herrera told the Pioneer Press"Everything I wanted to do, I was able to do," Herrera beamed.

- The Texans handled the 49ers, 30-7. The big news was the injury to Arian Foster. Prior to going out of the game, he had eight carries for 38 yards with Houston. Read about it in the: Houston ChronicleESPN.com and Sporting News. DB Jason Allen had a special teams stop for Houston. Parys Haralson started at right outside linebacker, but had no stats for the Niners.

- The Titans rallied to beat the Bears, 14-13. Punter Chad Cunningham had a punt for 44 yards, but also had one blocked, which he recovered and actually rushed for a first down. Watch the crazy play here

- The Broncos knocked off the Seahawks, 23-20. DE Robert Ayers started and had a tackle for Denver. Punter Britton Colquitt had six punts for a 51.0 average with a 43.8 net average.

- The Patriots lost to Detroit, 34-10. LB Jerod Mayo started and made seven tackles for New England. Both Shaun Ellis and Albert Haynesworth did not travel to the game and have yet to see action in the preseason.

- The Chargers beat the Cardinals, 34-31. DL Dan Williams had a tackle for Arizona. With San Diego both WR Kelley Washington and OT Eric Young did not play. 

- The Steelers topped the Falcons, 34-16. Offensive lineman Ramon Foster and Chris Scott both played as reserves fo Pittsburgh. LB LaMarcus Thompson did not play for Atlanta. 

- In the Bills' 35-32 overtime win over the Jaguars, TE David Martin did not play.

Vols In The NFL Saturday (8/20)

Here's a look at former Vols in NFL Preseason action on Saturday night. 

- Six former Vols saw action as the Texans topped the Saints, 27-14. Arian Foster made a triumphant return as he scored two touchdowns (watch the TDs: Foster plows in and Foster shake and bake) and gained 47 yards on the ground. Teammate DB Jason Allen had three tackles and a pass defended. All four UT products with the Saints played as Jabari Greer led New Orleans with six tackles, Turk McBride had two tackles, a sack and two quarterback hurries, receiver Robert Meachem had a catch for 43 yards. Aubrayo Franklin also played, but had no stats.

- Three more Vols suited up as the Bay Area rivalry renewed with the Raiders falling to the hosts 49ers, 17-3. Rookie Denarius Moore had two catches for 28 yards and a kickoff return for 48 yards for Oakland and Parys Haralson had a sack for three yards for the Niners. John Henderson did not play for Oakland. 

- Rookie punter Chad Cunningham made his preseason debut for the Titans as Tennessee lost on a last-second field goal to the Rams, 17-16. The first-year pro punted three times for a 34.3 average with two punts inside the 20. 

Denver beat the Bills, 24-10.  Robert Ayers started at left defensive end for the Broncos, but had no stats. Punter Britton Colquitt boomed four punts for an amazing 59.0 average with a long of 62. Buffalo's David Martin had one pass thrown his way, but it was incomplete.

-  Guard Anthony Herrera did not play for Minnesota in a 20-7 loss at Seattle.

Vols In NFL Update (8/14)

Here's a look at former Vols who were in action on Saturday night in NFL preseason games.

- The Browns beat the Super Champion Packers 27-17. Scott Wells started at center and Chad Clifton drew the nod at left guard for Green Bay. Rookie Jarrod Shaw played late minutes on the O-Line for Cleveland. Montario Hardesty didn't see action for the Browns.

- In Nashville, the Titans topped the Vikings 14-3. Neither former Vol in the game saw action. Guard Anthony Herrera for the Vikings or punter Chad Cunningham with the Titans.

- The Panthers and former Vol Omar Gaither beat the Giants 20-10. Gaither made two tackles.

- The Bears downed the Bills and UT's David Martin, 10-3. Martin didn't have any stats.

- St. Louis handled Indianapolis 33-10. Of course Peyton Manning is still sidelined for the Colts, but Jacques McClendon did play some on the offensive line for Indy.
