Follow... Hagy at the Rice Planters | Tomasulo at the Mexican Open | Wi at the Travelers
Current Cal men's golfer Brandon Hagy and former Golden Bear Peter Tomasulo are on top of leader boards of their respective events at the conclusion of action Friday. Hagy leads the Rice Planters Amateur Tournament and Tomasulo is tied with fellow American B.J. Staten for first place at the Mexico Open Bicentenary stop on the Nationwide Tour. Another former Cal men's golfer Charlie Wi is tied for third at the PGA Tour's Travelers Championship.
Hagy's score of one-under par 71 on Friday was four strokes higher than his back-to-back rounds of five-under par 67 to start the tournament but still three strokes better than the 74 shot by second-round leader Pete Kellerman, moving Hagy one shot into the lead heading into Saturday's fourth and final round.
Tomasulo, who started the day alone atop the leader board, finished in a two-way tie with Staten after shooting a one-under par 71 in Friday's second round to move to nine-under for the tournament. Nine others are within three shots of the duo.
Wi was one of four players who started the day in first place after shooting an eight-under par round of 64 on Thursday. He came back Friday with a five-under par showing of 67 to move to 13-under for the tournament but is still five shots off the pace of tournament leader Justin Rose, who backed up his 64 on Thursday with a 62 on Friday to get to 18-under through 36 holes.
The Travelers Championship and Mexico Open Bicentenary continue through Sunday.
