Homecoming week for the University of Pittsburgh is here and there are numerous activities for everyone. Tonight marks the basketball teams' Midnight Madness festivities and other exciting Pitt events. On Saturday, the action gets started early with the main attraction - Pitt vs. Louisville - kicking off at 11 a.m. from Heinz Field.

On Sunday, the focus returns to basketball as the Panthers host their annual Maggie Dixon Heart Health Fair and Blue-Gold Scrimmage.


Sunday, Oct. 14

Maggie Dixon Heart Health Fair

12-2 p.m. * Petersen Events Center

The Maggie Dixon Heart Health Fair will include free blood pressure and health screenings and educational heart health displays.

It is the fourth year that the Maggie Dixon Heart Health Fair will be held in Pittsburgh. Maggie Dixon, Coach Dixon's sister, was the vibrant, passionate and successful head coach of the Army Black Knights women's basketball team. In 2006, she guided her team to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Just weeks later, Maggie died suddenly due to a heart arrhythmia. She was only 28 years old.


Men's Basketball Team Autographs

12-1 p.m. * Petersen Events Center

Fans will have the opportunity to obtain autographs from the players and coaches in the lobby and concourse of the Petersen Events Center.


Blue-Gold Scrimmage

2 p.m. * Petersen Events Center

It's your first chance to see the 2012-13 team in action as they scrimmage against each other. Head Coach Jamie Dixon and Jeff Hathhorn will have the call on Pitt Panthers Television's live broadcast, Comcast channel 188 or 210.

With the University of Pittsburgh celebrating its 225th anniversary, this year's homecoming festivities are greater than ever. Earlier in the week Pitt Live Wire looked at Friday night's events. Today we break down Saturday's activities and the showdown with Louisville at Heinz Field at 11 a.m.

Pitt Alumni Band Day: 7 a.m.
Great Lawn Student Tailgate: 8-11 a.m.
World's Largest Family Tailgate: 8-11 a.m.
Stage AE: All fans are invited to Stage AE beginning at 8:30 a.m. Come and enjoy live music and specials offered throughout the morning, while visiting with former Pitt student-athletes, who will be in attendance for their All-Sport Reunion.
Panthers Prowl: 8:45 a.m.
Pitt Band Pregame Concert (Gate A): 9 a.m.
March To Victory Parade: 10 a.m. The 2012 Homecoming court will lead the parade down General Robinson Street.
Kickoff, Pitt vs. Louisville: 11 a.m.
Halftime: Announcement of Homecoming King and Queen

Description: Pitt Bullet Check links here for directions to Heinz Field, information on parking and the student shuttle. Parking lots will open five hours prior to kickoff. Also, continue to check traffic updates for Saturday. There could be significant delays if you are heading to the game through the Squirrel Hill Tunnels on the Parkway East (I-376) so please plan accordingly.

Description: Pitt Bullet Pitt introduced a new digital ticketing system this year with a multitude of capabilities. One important component is that fans are able to share their tickets if they are unable to attend a game. Fans can share tickets with friends and family, sell their tickets online, or donate to a charity. For more information, visit the ticket center. 

Description: Pitt Bullet Will Call will open three hours prior to kickoff this season at Gate A. Walk-up ticket sales will take place at Gate B.

Description: Pitt Bullet Pitt fans are asked to arrive early to the stadium due to enhanced security measures, which includes a handheld metal detector. The detector will replace pat-downs. Express lanes will be available for fans that are not carrying in additional permitted items into Heinz Field.

Description: Pitt Bullet Your gameday experience will be heightened this year once inside the stadium as well. Upgrades to Heinz Field's scoreboard capabilities allow us to provide a better fan experience including enhanced camera angles, more complete coverage and more information to those in attendance. The upgrades make Heinz Field one of the top technologically advanced stadiums in college athletics.
